Labour-run Oxford City Council has recently installed new state-of-the-art outdoor gym equipment at Cowley Marsh Park. The new fitness trail covers approximately 1km and has multiple excercise stations located at intervals across the park so people can run or cycle between each. The equipment includes treadmills, shoulder press and step-up machines. The trail is part of a programme to install five similar trails in parks across the City. The equipment is suitable for all ages.

This latest investment by the City Council in recreation facilities follows the completion of the renovation of all children’s playgrounds in the City, including the one in Cowley Marsh Park.

The fitness trail is another success in improving the park for local Councillor Mohammed Abbasi who worked on the installation of the scheme. In the past, Councillor Abbasi has contributed some of his ward budget towards the cricket nets at the park as well. He said, “Cowley Marsh Park is my favourite place and I consider it a hidden jewel of the ward, with the facilities like cricket nets, children’s play area, football pitches and the recently installed fitness trail. I am exploring further facilities in the park for future.”
