Oxford Labour Open 50th Refurbished Play Area

This month saw the opening of the 50th children’s play area to be refurbished by the Labour-run Oxford City Council.

The Bury Knowle play area officially opened on Friday 23rd September following an £115,000 investment in which all existing play equipment was replaced.

When Labour took overall control of the council play areas all across the city were being closed by the Liberal administration and children and local communities were suffering.

Not only did Labour reverse the closures but they began a massive programme of refurbishment, with the 50th now completed, with play areas at Pegasus Road, Cutteslowe Park and Florence Park still to be developed.

Mark Lygo, Labour City Councillor for Churchill and Cabinet Member for Sports and Parks, said: “This has been a great scheme that has made a real impact for young people in Oxford”.
