Oxford Labour Welcomes Reopening Of The Old Fire Station

The West End Regeneration project continues to take shape with the reopening of the Old Fire Station.

Labour-run Oxford City Council have worked alongside the homelessness charity Crisis to develop the building into a high quality resource for the local community. The building will house two organisations: Crisis Skylight and Arts at the Old Fire Station.

Crisis Skylight is dedicated to working with homeless and vulnerably housed people. They will provide access to employment opportunities, such as a social enterprise cafe.

Arts at the Old Fire Station will offer professional development for artists and a space for them to sell their work. It will also be a venue for music, theatre and an exhibition space.

Anne-Marie Canning, Labour Candidate for Carfax, said: "This renovation is fantastic as it will provide an important service for vulnerable people whilst also making available much needed space for the creative arts. The venue will be a valuable addition to the West End and Oxford as a whole".

Bob Price, Labour Councillor for Hinksey Park and Leader of Oxford City Council, added: "Oxford is a very special city and the Old Fire Station will add a new and unique dimension to our community".

The multimillion pound re-development is just one of the many projects that comprise the West End Regeneration plan. Other developments include the future renovation of the Town Hall which will include the building of a new cafe, and the renovation of museums in the city to increase their accessibility for disabled people.
