Oxford Labour Women’s Group Speak Out On Con/Dem Cuts

Women are being particularly hard-hit but the Lib Dem / Tory coalition government’s cuts.

Two thirds of public sector jobs are done by women.

Women are losing twice as much as men in cuts to benefits and tax credits – mainly because the cuts fall disproportionally on those caring for children.

Women do the bulk of caring for children and elderly parents and are therefore most affected by reductions in childcare and social care. More women than men retire in poverty and will be hard hit by the rapid rise in the state retirement age for women.

At a packed public meeting at Oxford Town Hall, organised by the Oxford Labour Women’s Group and with Fiona MacTaggart MP, Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, women from different backgrounds spoke passionately about the damage being done by the Tory/Lib Dem coalition government’s policies.
