Val Smith is married to Andrew has lived on Blackbird Leys for 33 years. Val has been an Oxford City Councillor for 23 years and an Oxfordshire County Councillor for 7 years.

During her time on the City Council she has served as Lord Mayor and Sheriff and has in the past Chaired the Housing Committee and the Blackbird Leys Development Committee when plans for Greater Leys were being discussed.

Val is currently on the City Council Executive Board with responsibility for Customer Services, Health and physical regeneration plans. She is a school governor for Orchard Meadow School and the Oxford Academy.

Val is very involved with and a great supporter of Children’s Centres. She cares passionately about affordable housing, estate improvements in getting the best for Blackbird Leys Schools, youth services and local groups like the Boys and Girls football teams on the estate

Val works as a caseworker and her interests include gardening, films and reading.
