Littlemore City Councillor Tiago Corais is pushing for immediate action on the severe traffic across Littlemore as residents face another two weeks of roadworks.

Cllr Tiago Corais said: “The closure of Oxford Road between Littlemore Roundabout and Dudgeon Drive since 1st September has brought Littlemore to a standstill.”

“The electricity works going on are necessary, but this traffic chaos could have been avoided. Oxfordshire County Council must step up to protect residents and commuters from this unnecessary hardship, and get Littlemore moving again.”

“From monitoring the traffic between 7am and 9:45am last Thursday, the bottlenecks from Cowley Road to Newman Road ballooned between 7:45am and 9:15am.”

Cllr Tiago Corais has invited the Cabinet Member for Transport Management, Cllr Andrew Gant, and country traffic officers to join him and see the state of Littlemore’s road for themselves this week.

“My message to Oxfordshire County Council is clear – they need to listen to Littlemore residents and work with local councillors to resolve this mess.”

“Firstly, Oxfordshire County Council should introduce a temporary one-way system on Oxford Road, allowing morning access to the ring road until 9am. Secondly, the 3A and 45 bus routes should remain fully two-way at all times. And thirdly, the signage should be updated to display restricted hours and exemptions for residents, buses, and emergency vehicles. They need to act now”

Oxford Road in Littlemore is scheduled to be closed between Dudgeon Drive and Littlemore Roundabout from 1st September until 22nd September.

This is due to infrastructure upgrades by Energetic Electricity, involving the installation of high-voltage ducts to reinforce the local power network.
